New to Marineterrein Amsterdam: Kanteen25

20 March 2020

Building 025 – a big black box on the western quay of the Marineterrein – has been completely transformed. Outside there is now a large wooden terrace, with views of the Oosterdok and NEMO. Inside is a large open space with a coffee corner, reading tables, workstations, a bar, and a restaurant, which will be offering cooking courses in the new year. This new catering facility is called KANTEEN25, and is especially focused on everything local: local residents, local students, and local organizations on site.

‘We are still carrying out trials during December, and are only open during the day,’ says General Manager Özgür Eylen. ‘But we are working hard in the run-up to KANTEEN25’s grand opening in the new year. Our kitchen will have its own cooking school in the early spring of 2020, which will be open to the public. And the menu will feature only local, sustainably produced products.’

KANTEEN25 is more than ‘just’ a restaurant. ‘It’s like a huge living room, where people come to meet, work, and express their creativity,’ says Özgür. ‘We have space for meetings, workstations for students, and a stage for presentations and discussions. We want people to communicate and share ideas with each other. And what better way to do that than over a coffee or a beer?’

KANTEEN25 is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in December 2019. KANTEEN25 is closed during the festive period and will re-open on 6 January. The cooking courses are expected to start in February 2020. More information:
