Guided tours

8 January 2016

Do you want to go on a journey of discovery through the Marineterrein? Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, master storyteller and former member of the Dutch navy Hans Bartelsman gives a tour of the grounds.

Until recently, Hans Bartelsman was acting commander of the Marine Etablissement Amsterdam. After almost 39 years of service in the Dutch navy, he went into job-related early retirement. Hans Bartelsman is second to none when it comes to telling stories about the maritime history of the grounds. This history began in 1655 and ended in 2015, the year which saw the first steps of the grounds’ transformation into a new urban district in Amsterdam.

During the tour, Mister Bartelsman passes several places of interest, such as the place in which Vincent van Gogh stayed for the duration of 1877 just prior to embarking on his artistic career. The tours take place every second en fourth Wednesday of the month. Language: Dutch.
